It is an easy walk to Rockerfeller Center, Broadway Theatres, restaurants and we just love the excitement and bustle of this iconic destination and thoroughfare. Our favorite time of the year is Christmas season…..the area is alive and recognized as the cultural confluence of the city. I always end up taking photos of all the lights and of the pedestrian traffic. I decided to leave the traffic in this scene, I feel that it adds to the overall excitement of the photograph. Some things I discovered – It wasn’t always called Times Square. Times Square got its name from the newspaper, The New York Times when it resided in the building now known as One Times Square in 1904. New Years Celebratory Ball Drop since 1907. You can see Time Squares from outer space. It is so bright with its dizzying number of digital billboards that astronauts can easily see the neighborhood. Artworks abound. Work by sound designer Max Nehaus. Minutes before midnight there is a display change on the bill boards called Midnight Moment. It is estimated that over 400,000 people walk through here, including the so-called Broadway plaza every day.
